PlasticBusters Teams Up with The Green Party in IOM and EcoChampions in Malawi for a Busy Weekend of Cleanup Events

On Saturday, January 28th, the PlasticBusters team in the Isle of Man teamed up with the Isle of Man Green Party to organize a group cleanup event around the Mona Drive area. Despite the grey clouds, the weather was perfect for the 19 volunteers who participated, and in just over an hour, they collected 23 full bags of litter containing over 800 items including bottles, cans, plastic bags, food wrappings, and more. Among the interesting items found were several cones, a car wheel, a football, two chairs, a mobile phone, and even a boot!

The volunteers met at 10:30 am at Mona Drive in Douglas, Isle of Man, and all materials such as litter pickers, bin bags, and high viz vests were provided by PlasticBusters. The group also used the Eyesea App to log all the litter found and recovered.

With this, the Isle of Man team has now carried out over 70 group clean-up activities locally to preserve the ecosystems of this unique UNESCO Biosphere nation, where we have so far collected more that 8,500 pounds of litter…. And this is only counting our organised group activities, as our local PlasticBusters continue working hard on their own looking after their adopted places (www.adopttheworld.org).

It's also important to note that on the same morning, another group of PlasticBusters volunteers under the “EcoChampions Project” carried out another cleanup event at the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi, where over 50,000 people live and which is suffering from a very serious littering problem affecting the quality of life of the residents.
